Week 12: Letting Go—I choose Yes!

I really appreciated the illustration Davene gave last Sunday about the bear that came into a camp and hugged a hot kettle. The more it burned the harder the bear hugged the kettle until finally he was killed as result of not turning loose. She explained that we can either let go of our negative thoughts and our DMP & dreams will live, or we can hang on and die.
I have also heard a monkey can be caught by cutting a hole in a gourd just big enough for a monkeys paw, then putting a peanut in the gourd. The monkey will reach in, grab the peanut and then not be able to remove its closed paw (fist) and in some cases will die rather than turn loose of the peanut.

Another prosperity consciousness speaker pointed out that as you change, there maybe a point where you feel you are really getting stuck and resisting change. He described an ego tantrum that doesn’t want to give up old thought patterns of (non-productive often undermining and hurtful) thinking and reactions. It feels like it’s threatening because you’re letting go of what you always have been – your identity. In this case I think the monkey would even be holding on to a rancid terrible-tasting peanut! This is ‘Custer’s last stand’ it is the time to give up the rancid peanut (sad story) and choose success instead. Ego doesn’t want to give up who he is/has been. I’m choosing yes!
